Do you know how to leverage your Human Capital?
Human Capital comes down to the total direct and intangible value of all your relationships and the ability to build on them. It is a form of Creative Capital that the most successful people understand.
Human Capital proves that it's not what you know, but who you know. Or an even better way to measure one's ability to leverage human capital is how a person treats others.
Have you ever met a salesperson who treats you like just another warm body representing a potential sale? How successful can they really be? Compare this to a salesperson who treats every prospect like a VIP whether the interaction ends in a transaction or not. This is the type of person that understands the value of investing into Human Capital.
Human Capital, if invested into properly, maintains its value in any economy. In fact, during a down economy, we tend to want to do business with people we know and trust. This is is why currently, the bigger your network, the more value you can fall back on when other forms of Creative Capital, such as Financial Capital, become scarce.
Building Human Capital comes down to your ability to invest into healthy relationships. The more relationally healthy you are, the more Human Capital is available to you for eventual financial gain.
But as important as being relationally healthy is, it is just as important to be physically healthy. It is a fact that our natural instinct is to judge people by their physical appearance. Physical appearance is an indicator of personal health, which leads us to believe that person represents value (this is the reason why properly dressing for success is critical). We are naturally attracted to physically fit people. This may seem shallow and superficial, but it is the truth. Physically healthy people, especially with matching healthy personalities, just seem to have more influence and ability to build relationships that yield results.
We are not saying that everyone needs to look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie to be able to take advantage of Human Capital. What we are saying is that you don't want your health, or lack of health, to hurt you by causing others to judge you in a negative light. So maintaining your health is important. Not to mention that many meaningful business transactions are made in an athletic environment like the golf course, and not just the board room.
So do a Human Capital check. How is your ability to build healthy relationships and maintain a standard of physical health? If you take care of these areas, your Human Capital will expand and can be used to generate other forms of Creative Capital like finances.
